MATTHEW SINGER is a Member of the Firm with a trial and appellate practice. Mr. Singer focuses on business disputes, employment lawsuits, environmental litigation and counseling, and tort cases. He represents plaintiffs and defendants in a broad range of litigated matters, including contract and franchise disputes, employment and discrimination claims, wrongful death, real estate and premises liability, environmental matters, and fraud and unfair trade practices.
In addition to his civil trial practice, Mr. Singer has a particular expertise in environmental and natural resources law. Mr. Singer attended the nation's leading environmental law school, where he served as an editor of the law review, Environmental Law. Prior to joining JDO, Mr. Singer served as a law clerk to Justice Alexander O. Bryner of the Alaska Supreme Court.
Mr. Singer has a strong commitment to pro bono and public interest representation. He previously served on the Alaska Bar Association's pro bono services committee and regularly dedicates a portion of this practice to pro bono service.
Mr. Singer's experience includes:
- Successfully challenged on constitutional grounds a ballot initiative that threatened to shut down a vital Alaska industry.
- Achieved a $2.2 million settlement in a dispute involving environmental contamination.
- Represented parties in class action product liability and unfair trade practices actions.
- Successfully defended employers in a variety of actions, including: a whistleblower action filed by former employees; a wrongful death and excessive force claim stemming from an arrest by a public safety officer; and wrongful discharge and overtime claims filed by former employees.
- Obtained $1.7 million judgment after lengthy trial in an architecture malpractice case.
- Represented numerous clients in successful appellate matters before the Alaska Supreme Court.
